Our Retreat Programme
Throughout the year we offer a range of different retreats. You may choose to take part in one of our 8-day Individually Guided Retreats, a Preached Retreat or, if your are new to spending time on retreat, you might try one of our Themed Retreats.
There is also the opportunity for you to be here for the Holy Week Experience.
Self-directed Retreat
You are welcome to stay at a time that suits you, joining the Community for prayer and meals. This could include a Quiet Day, where you come for the day. Alternatively you can stay here for one or more nights. There is a small Art Room in the Retreat House, with simple materials for those who feel creative. Guests will also find a small library in the Retreat House for those wanting to spend time reading, and there is plenty of room in our spacious grounds to wander through the gardens.
Quiet Day for Groups
Parishes and Cell groups enjoy spending time with each other, and some groups can be very actively engaged in their projects. There are many groups who come here who enjoy a time of reflection, and the opportunity to be with their friends and colleagues without the demand for conversation. This type of day might include an address from a CR Brother before venturing out into the grounds and walking the labyrinth.
Pilgrimage to the Church of the Resurrection
This is a great opportunity to come to the Community of the Resurrection and meet with people! A Pilgrimage consists of a two night stay; over the weekend or in the week. During your time here you will be joined by members of the Community who will lead you through a range of sessions. Through conversation, reflection, teaching and prayer, a Pilgrimage gives an insight into the Benedictine tradition, its shaping of community life and its value for all who seek to follow Christ today. A good way for parishes to meet, engage, and encourage one another.
Study Days
The discipline of study is important in our monastic life, and we encourage those who are able to take time to keep up to date with theological thought and their subjects of interest. Individuals come here to undertake private study and – by request – to make use of the Community Library, while others come here to prepare sermons or to read the books they would otherwise never finish. To be a disciple is to be a learner and, apart from individual study arrangements, our programme contains a range of day and residential events to encourage life-long learning for those on the Christian journey. Every bedroom in the retreat house is furnished with a study table and chair.
Sabbatical
It is good to take rest and it is good to take that rest in God. Those who have been given the opportunity for a sabbatical come here for some or all of the time, to live alongside the Community, participate in chores around the house, church and grounds, and undertake the deeper and more prolonged process of learning; a balance of time for reflection and study, punctuated by the daily monastic rhythm of prayer and worship.
First Monastic Steps
We enjoy welcoming those groups of people who are starting out on the great sea of faith in Jesus Christ. Some aren’t necessarily young in years! We are glad to spend time with those who are preparing for Confirmation, or who are wanting to discover something of this monastic hinterland. We offer a series of Monastic weeks for those who are interested in monastic life, and who would like the chance to experience life on the inside and to ask questions.
Conference & Day Events
We have facilities for those wanting to organise a conference or a seminar for their group. Parochial Church Councils have come away to Mirfield to reflect together about their Christian life and to discern Christ’s call to His people. Those who come here find great strength in being supported by the Community and the regular call to prayer that keeps our hearts and lives firmly fixed on Christ.
Guided Tours for Groups
Throughout the year we welcome groups who are interested in looking around the monastery. On a guided you will be welcomed by a Brother of the Community who will give an introductory talk into the Religious Life. After a tour of the church guests will end their visit with a mug of monastic tea and cake.
Educational Visits
During the academic year we welcome visits from schools, colleges and universities. We offer a set of educational packages and are always developing new ways to share our life and work. For more information click here.
Considering the Practicalities
What do I need to know about staying in the Monastery?
We want to make you comfortable during your stay. Although we have a few ensuite rooms, the large majority of our accommodation is in standard rooms with a single bed, washbasin, desk and chair, so you may want to bring a dressing gown for walking along the corridors to and from the bathrooms. Each floor of the Retreat House has a kitchenette, which is stocked with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits, to let you make a cuppa anytime you desire. Throughout your stay we aim to provide you with nutritious and tasty food provided by our trained staff who cook everything here in our own kitchens. We hope that you will enjoy all the hospitality of this place, which we are glad to share with you.
Visit or Stay
We welcome you to come to CR and to share in our life. Some come regularly to talk with a brother, others spend a day or two experiencing this very different environment. Individuals and groups come on retreat and pilgrimage, share in the teaching and courses we offer and join us in worship and meals.
