We aim to renew this place of hospitality, welcome and learning as a resource for Church and society in a turbulent and changing world. Our aim is to ensure that all who come can share in our life and leave refreshed and renewed through their experience.
People who stay at the Mirfield Monastery, home of the Community of the Resurrection, come for a variety of different reasons. These can be individually arranged retreats, guided retreats led by a member of the Community or the College, week long special courses, or clergy retreats.

The Anglican adage about making your Confession is ‘All may, none must, some should’. But we know how good it feels when we get something off our chest, when we have had the chance to say sorry to someone. But it can go deeper than this. This day will explore what a gift the Sacrament of Reconciliation is and how we can make it part of our own lives.
Andrew Nunn is the Dean of Southwark. He trained for priestly ministry at the College of the Resurrection and, since ordination in 1983 has ministered in parishes in Leeds as well as being Chaplain to the Bishop of Southwark and from 1999 first the Sub Dean and Precentor and then Dean at Southwark Cathedral. Andrew has been a member of the national Working Party looking at the Seal of the Confessional in the life of the Church of England. He is a regular speaker and retreat conductor, he blogs and tweets.

Paul’s letter to the Philippians is a short and personal letter, written from a Roman prison. We get a glimpse of Paul’s affectionate relationship with a church he felt close to. Often called the “letter of joy” we actually find a range of emotions in Philippians: Paul talks openly about frustration and sadness, about his struggles as well as his hope. But above all he talks about his deep longing to be close to his Lord in life and death.

This Matthew study day will take a wide-angle lens approach by presenting some background information which informs the reading of individual passages.
We will devote particular attention to the evangelist’s carefully worked-out over-all structure, to the Sermon on the Mount (perhaps Matthew’s “greatest hit”), and to contemporary interpretation of the evangelist’s primary concerns. Each session will provide informational hand-outs and include time for questions.

In recent years many archaeological discoveries have been made which together with early Christian texts give us insights into the life and worship of early Christian communities. In the light of these, how similar is the life and worship of their churches to those we know today. How true to life are the images we construct of the earliest Christians? Is there anything we can learn from them?
